Wellness Hub

Designing a centralized wellness experience to help employees discover resources, build healthier work habits, and take meaningful breaks throughout their workday.

Overview

The Wellness Hub was designed to give Alberta Blue Cross® employees a central place to discover programs, resources, and workplace initiatives supporting physical, mental, social, and financial wellbeing.

The previous wellness content was distributed across different resources, making it harder for employees to understand what was available and find the right resource for their needs. I organized the experience around key wellness opportunities, from movement breaks and wellness videos to Balance® online and the Daily Wellness Break initiative.

The goal was to create a welcoming, easy-to-navigate experience that made workplace wellness resources more visible and actionable.

The Challenge

Wellness resources covered a wide range of programs and initiatives, but employees had to navigate different content and resources to find what they needed. The experience needed to bring these offerings together while making the information approachable and easy to scan.

01

Bringing Wellness Resources Together

Programs, resources, and initiatives needed a clearer central destination so employees could understand the breadth of wellness support available to them.

02

Making Diverse Content Easy to Navigate

The hub needed to organize different types of wellness content without overwhelming employees, from fitness classes and videos to online programs and wellness breaks.

03

Making Wellness Actionable

The experience needed to move beyond simply listing resources and encourage employees to take meaningful steps toward their wellbeing.

04

Supporting Different Wellness Needs

The hub needed to reflect the organization's broader approach to wellbeing across physical, mental, social, and financial wellness.

Before

Discovery

The first step was understanding the existing Wellness Hub, identifying content gaps, and determining how the experience could better support employees looking for wellness information and resources.

Research Methods

Employee Survey Insights

Reviewed internal wellness survey findings to understand employee barriers and motivations around taking wellness breaks. The findings identified lack of time and forgetting to step away as key barriers.

Content & Resource Review

Reviewed the existing wellness programs, resources, and initiatives to understand what information needed to be surfaced within the Wellness Hub. This included fitness classes, movement breaks, wellness videos, Balance® online, wellness rewards, and the Daily Wellness Break initiative.

Stakeholder Collaboration

Worked with the Senior Communications Officer and Wellness team to understand organizational goals, prioritize content, and determine how wellness offerings should be presented to employees.

Key Insights

Employees didn't need another place filled with wellness information. They needed a clear starting point that brought existing resources together and made it easier to understand what was available and what they could do next.

Design Approach

The design focused on turning a broad collection of wellness programs and resources into a clear, welcoming experience that employees could quickly understand and explore.

Create a Clear Starting Point

Introduce the Wellness Hub with a concise overview of the available programs, resources, and initiatives so employees immediately understand what the hub offers.

Organize Resources Around Employee Needs

Group wellness offerings into clear sections and pathways, making it easier for employees to find relevant resources without navigating through unrelated information.

Make Wellness Actionable

Use clear calls-to-action and dedicated sections to move employees from learning about wellness to participating in programs, taking wellness breaks, and accessing resources.

Design Process

Content Audit

I reviewed the existing wellness content and resources to identify opportunities to improve hierarchy, organization, and discoverability.

Information Architecture

The page was structured to guide employees from understanding the purpose of the Wellness Hub to discovering programs and taking action.

Wireframes & Iterations

I explored different layouts to determine how to balance organizational messaging, wellness programs, supporting resources, and calls-to-action.

Iterations focused on:

  • Establishing a stronger visual hierarchy
  • Reducing the amount of information presented at once
  • Creating clearer pathways to wellness programs
  • Giving key initiatives more visibility
  • Making calls-to-action easier to identify
  • Improving overall scanability

Final Design

A More Connected Wellness Experience

Why it matters

Following the launch, the Wellness Hub saw increased reach, engagement, and content consumption. Active users increased by 22.2%, while engaged sessions and page views grew at a similar rate, suggesting stronger awareness and continued interaction with wellness resources.

Reflection

This project reinforced the importance of organizing information around how employees actually use a resource. Rather than simply presenting wellness programs and information, I focused on creating a clear and approachable experience that helped employees quickly understand what was available and find resources relevant to their wellbeing.

Working with the Wellness team also showed me how stakeholder collaboration and content strategy can shape the structure of a digital experience. If I continued the project, I would conduct usability testing with employees to better understand how they navigate the hub and identify opportunities to further improve engagement and resource discovery.
